Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would put her in America's eyes, into the child prodigy category. This was a very natural characteristic for a girl who was of Irish heritage, who was nurtured in the beginning by gifted family members and parents. Maureen joined this wonderful sanctuary in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also owned a part of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen FitzSimons placed second from a household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and was a gruelling athlete in games when she was young. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural talent to perform. This was demonstrated by her receiving nearly every Feis awards for drama and the stage that her country had to offer. At age 14she was admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her dream was to pursue operatic singing as well as classical theater.
